Day 3 Shamu Rocks
Wow, another amazing day at beautiful San Diego. With whales, dolphins, turtles, eels and every other sea creature you could think of, this day clearly topped them all! We woke up earlier than the previous days to get to the pool for an eight o’clock start. Practice was hard as usual, with vertical kick and IM, but three relay teams earned the night practice off for everyone! We also met a local who told us that yesterday we were in the most famous surfing spot in all America! The Beach Boys also referred to it in some of their songs! After returning from the pool, we celebrated Matt’s 12th birthday with a cake from Baskin Robbins, Yummy! Next we all packed up and headed to Sea World. We had a blast right from the start. Everyone went on three rides together and the favourite was one titled Atlantis. It took you through the sinking of the famous city in a wet and rocket fast rollercoaster. Next we went on Shipwreck Rapids, wet as well. Wild Arctic was the next ride, a virtual helicopter ride through the Arctic in search of wildlife. We also petted rays, starfish, and sea urchins, saw sharks, polar bears, beluga whales, and flamingos. At the manatee exhibit, one even pooped on the other one’s face! Good thing we had already eaten. The first show we went to was Clyde and Seamore’s Risky Rescue, which was a comedy featuring an otter, sealion, walrus, and seal. Next was Dolphin Discovery, with Dolly the Dolphin, four other dolphins and two pilot whales. One of the dolphins was named Duncan, and so we all thought of Callum back at home…aww. The 4-D Haunted Lighthouse was next. It was weird and disappointing. Shamu Rocks was the best and last part of all. With four killer whales, lighting, and a fabulous fireworks display, it was a great way to end an already thrilling day. Some of us chose to sit in the soak zone, and so returned to the hotel drenched. A quick hot tub wrapped up the day and then we were sent off to bed. Oh ya, and we saw a Haagan Das sign and thought of Alexa too. J YAY Seaworld! And San Deigo! YAY!
