Practice Skills Have Racing Impact at Season Opener in Lethbridge
AMAC swimmers showed some really sharp skills on starts, turns and underwater swimming at the season opening LASC Fall Challenge, October 24-25. The competition featured over 200 swimmers from southern Alberta and BC with 34 Marlins (reduced by 4 & 1 coach) racing well and posting 73 top three finishes, including 33 individual wins and 4 relay wins!
On the Podium
Nine year old Caleb Lee began his season with an undefeated streak of seven events winning the 10 & under 50/100/200/400 Free and 50/100/200 Back events. Tianna Rissling (16) just missed the same with 6 wins in 7 events in the 15 & over age group - 1st in 100/200/400 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, 200 IM and 2nd in 100 Fly. Meaghan Morter (10) and Jessica Wong (14) each won four events. Meaghan was first in 10 & under 100/200 Free & 100/200 Back and 3rd in 50 Free. Jessica won the 13-14 50/100 Back, 50 Fly & 200 IM and added 2nd in 100/200/400 Free. Amanda Andrew (12) and Bailey Sloan (14) won three events apiece; Amanda was 1st in 11-12 100/200 Free & 200 Back and 2nd in 50/400 Free & 50/100 Back, Bailey won the 13-14 50/100/200 Free, placed 2nd in 200 IM and 3rd in 50/100 Back & 50 Fly. Taylor Andrew (11) won the 11-12 50/100 Back, placed 2nd in 100/200 Free and 3rd in 50 Free/ & 50 Fly. Richard Hortness won the 15 & over 100/200 Free events. Cathy Zwicker (14) and Cameron Walters (12) each won one event; Cathy was 1st in the 13-14 200 Back, 2nd in 100 Fly and 3rd in 400 Free & 200 IM, and Cameron was 1st in 200 Back. Mikaela Wong (10) had a great meet with six 2nd place finishes in the 10 & under age group - 200/400 Free, 50/100/200 Back and 50 Fly. Anna Dunphy (11), 2nd in 50 Breast & 3rd in 200 Breast and Kiera Stroh (13) 3rd in the 200 Back rounded out our top 3 placings.
The 11-12 and 13-14 Girls swept the 200 Free and Medley Relays. Amanda A, Taylor A, Anna D & Catherine Greenwood combined to win the 11-12 girls 200 Free & 200 Medley relays. Bailey S, Jessica W, Cathy Z & Sydney Lee teamed up to win the 13-14 200 Free & Medley relays. Our 10 & under girls team of Meaghan M, Mikaela W, Martie Haugan & Alaina Rissling placed 2nd in the 200 Free & Medley relays and our 11-12 boys; Caleb L, Cameron W, William Fraser, Aidan Comeau & Conner Rissling combined for 3rd in the 200 Free & Medley relays.
Best Times
As a team we raced to over 100 personal bests and the following swimmers had better than 70% best times;
Martie Haugan and Taylor Tindall each posted 7/7 best times
Hannah Lee, Cammie Robinson, Angel Slack and Cathy Zwicker all had 6/7 bests
Anna Dunphy, Madison Simpson and Mikaela Wong had 5/7 best times
