Young Marlins Fast Leading into Championship Season
Some of our young AMAC swimmers showed great improvements in a very exciting and successful weekend at the Foothills Stingrays Black and Blue meet in Okotoks. The 2 day meet was attended by 11 swimmers who went on to acheive 57 best times, reached the podium 30 times and included a new AMAC club record.
Fast Swimming
Starting of the swim meet in the 200 IM Paige C reached the podium in 2nd which set her up for a great weekend going 5 for 7 best times and stood in the top 3 in 2 more swims including her top finish in 50 Fly. On the boys side in the 10 & Unders Aidan C had a very successful weekend finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd in all 7 events including a top finish in 200 Back where he improved an exciting 16.72 seconds. Not having swam the 200 IM in quite some time Anna D started her weekend with a highlight 19.63 second improvement setting her up for 3 more best times and 4 top 3 finishes in the girls 11-12 age group. Racing in preperation for Age Group Championships Catherine G like all of her teammates had a successful weekend finishing 5 for 7 best times and on the podium on 3 occasions. Only participating on Saturday, Martie H made a huge impact with 10 seconds of improvement in only 4 events showing she is ready for Age Group trials in a couple weeks. Young Emma M (8 years old) showed everyone that we are swimming fast at all ages going 6 for 7 best times highlighted by a 12 second improvement in the 100 IM placing her 6th and another big improvement in the 400 Free leaping her closer to her achieving her 1st 'B' Time. Another swimmer to have a very exciting weekend was Meaghan M who finished in the top 4 for all her swims and was 6 for 7 best times, she finished atop in both the 50 and 200 Backstroke events. The only other boy to attend was Brady P and he didn't waste any time showing his improvements since making the jump to the TAG Group. Brady was 85% best times with a huge improvement coming in his 200 Freestyle where he dropped 11 seconds from his previous best time. With sickness leading up the 2 weeks before Cammie R did not let that slow her down at the pool. Cammie had a huge swim on the first days crushing her old best time in 200 Free by 21.42 seconds propelling herself to 5 of 7 best times. As part of our 10 & Under girls group that will be attending Age Group Champs Kate S showed she is excited, going 100% for best times and reacing the podium in 2nd place for 50 Free and narrowly missing the podium on 2 other of her swims. Mikaela W was not to be outdone by the success of her teammates as she raced to top 3 finishes in 3 events with an exciting 200 Backstroke that put her under 3:00minutes for the first time and on the podium in 2nd place.
Records and Achievements
A new club record was set by our Girls 10 & Under team of Kate S, Paige C, Meaghan M and Mikaela W. They went on to be the fastest ever 200 Freestyle relay in AMAC history with a time of 2:26.62. Another exciting acheivement occured on the weekend for Meaghan M as she acheived her Youth Recognition time in the 400 Freestyle with a best time of 5:35.86.
Coach Blair had a great time with the swimmers as they had fun and swam fast. The weekend was a great representation of the work our swimmers have been putting into Practice. For full results please see:
