AMAC Turns In Tremendous Performance At Western Canadian Champs!
Twelve AMAC swimmers had an awesome meet at the Western Canadian Championships in Saskatoon, February 18-21. The new pool in Saskatoon is bright, open and fast and we were very well prepared to swim fast.
We started off great on Thursday with the men's 800 and women's 1500. Adam Batten, Chloe Johnson and Cathy Zwicker all posted lifetime bests improving by 15, 15 & 10 seconds respectively. All three swims were AMAC club records; Adams's 8:40 broke his own 13-14 and Open record, Chloe's 18:11 (the last 250 with no cap and looooong hair across he face and in her mouth) was a 15-17 and Open record and Cathy's 18:20 was a 13-14 record. We switched gears to the stroke 50's after the distance events and started sprinting fast. Tianna Rissling and Alexa Haugan both qualified for second swims in the 50 Breast with Alexa dropping almost a second to a best of 34.67. In the 50 Fly Jessica Wong, Kyla Stigter and Tianna all posted best times with Jessica and Tianna moving onto finals. Jessica set club record for 15-17 and Open with 28.50. On the boys side, Colton posted a best time of 27.63. In the 50 Back Jessica set her 2nd AMAC record (15-17 and Open) of the day making finals with a 29.51.
The final event of day one was the 4 x 200 Free Relay, an event that has not been a traditional strength for our team. Luckily we were starting new traditions and we had more great swimming with the girls and boys both crushing the old AMAC records. The girls B team raced first and had 4 great swims with Cathy (2:14.51), Amanda Andrew (2:18.39), Kyla (2:18.18) & Alexa (2:15.56) all swimming under their individual best times for a strong team result. Our girls A team entered the event ranked 14th and moved up to 6th, our best team placing ever in this event! Bailey Sloan (2:06.16), Jessica (2:07.01), Tianna (2:02.38) and Chloe (2:12.92) also betted the 15-17 and Open club records by 25 and 8 seconds. 8/8 individual best times on relay swims for the girls! The boys were equal to the task as well with a club record and top 16 swim. Adam (2:01.66), Colton (1:56.64), Jordan (1:57.58), Callum (2:03.11) combined for a 7:58.99. Colton, Jordan and Callum were all 2.5-3.5 seconds under there previous best times and with Adam became the first AMAC team ever under 8 minutes!
